Christine Staub

Glory (1989)

Robert Gould Shaw leads the US Civil War's first all-black volunteer company, fighting prejudices of both his own Union army and the Confederates.

Emotionally powerful study of a politically complex historical moment.

William S. Burroughs: The Cat Inside

Purring in his sleep, Fletch stretches out his little black paws to touch my hands, the claws withdrawn, just a gentle touch to assure him that I am there beside him as he sleeps. He must have a dream image of me. Cats are said to be color-blind: grainy black-and-white, a flickering silver film full of rents as I leave the room, come back, go out, pick him up, put him down. Who could harm such a creature? Train his dog to kill him! Cat hate reflects an ugly, stupid, loutish, bigoted spirit. There can be no compromise with this Ugly Spirit.

So, this is where people come in order to live, I would have rather thought: to die.

A burglar has just finished his sentence, then murders a receiver and steals the loot of a break-in.

Classic french Noir with all the essentials: tough guys, sparse dialogue, stylish b/w photography.

New Stuff: Pink Floyd

OK, I'm slightly ashamed of this having successfully avoided Pink Floyd for over 3 decades. I have never heard this famous album in its entirety and never really intended to. However, it is a classic of some kind, and sine The Flaming Lips have now covered the complete album I thought I'd need to hear the original first.

War of the Worlds (2005)

As Earth is invaded by alien tripod fighting machines, one family fights for survival.

An effective and very imaginative variation than an adaptation of the classic sci-fi novel, some scenes even reach Hieronymous Bosch intensity.

New Stuff: Aphex Twin

So far I've ignored Aphex Twin, but the day has finally come that I take a look at his work.
