Marie Antoinette (2006)

Retelling of France's iconic but ill-fated queen from her betrothal and marriage to Louis XVI at 15 to her reign as queen at 19 and to the end of her reign as queen and ultimately the fall of Versailles.

Sensually charged and elegantly directed envisionment of a historic figure as a modern pop icon.

Maltin**1/2: "Visually sumptuous...Writer-director Coppola's Marie Antoinette is a contemporary girl, with modern music set against the pomp and detail of the 18th century life in the fast lane. Starts to tire after a while and ends with a whimper, not a bang...but there's much to enjoy here."
