Opal was basically a collaboration between Dave Roback of Rain Parade and Kendra Smith of Dream Syndicate, and when Smith left and Hope Sandoval joined, the band name was changed to Mazzy Star. Smith formed a new band, The Guild of Temporal Adventurers, which released one EP, and in 1995 she made one acclaimed solo album, then disappeared from the public.
