Rescue Dawn (2006)

A U.S. fighter pilot's epic struggle of survival after being shot down on a mission over Laos during the Viet Nam War.

As to be expected by its director this movie avoids political implications and rather stays focussed on surviving harsh captivity and the hardships of the escape through the jungle; Herzog's realistic sense for these traits and superb cast make it worth the time.

Maltin***: "Gripping reworking of Herzog's 1997 documentary LITTLE DIETER NEEDS TO FLY...An edge-of-your-seat POW story, this also serves as a commentary about the U.S. involvement in Vietnam."
