First Lines: Rudyard Kipling - Kim

He sat, in defiance of municipal orders, astride the gun Zam Zammah on her brick platform opposite the old Ajaib-Gher - the Wonder House, as the natives call the Lahore Museum.

New Stuff: Turin Brakes

Recently saw the clip to their song Sea Change on German TV and decided to go for their album.

New Stuff: Miranda Sex Garden

I'm a fan of Miranda Sex garden and missed their first album so far. It consists of British traditional songs and is completely accapella, so I'm looking forward to hear this one.

New Stuff: Dot Allison

I saw Dot Allison in the Scott Walker documentary and checked her out, seems like she makes music I would like.

William S. Burroughs: The Cat Inside

May 8, 1982. Today the female cat killed a half-grown rabbit. I looked out through the picture window and saw her with this rabbit in her jaws which she dragged under the porch. James was horrified. Later, she was out on the porch licking the blood off her paws with a very satisfied expression. I don't care much for rabbits. They aren't cute at all, even the little ones. All they do is make stupid, galvanic attempts to get out of your hands, and big rabbits can give you a very nasty bite. I tried to retrieve the remains before they manifest themselves and start haunting the porch with the reek of carrion. I can see nothing from the accessible end of the porch and don't aim to crawl under there.

William S. Burroughs: The Cat Inside

I have observed that in cat fights the aggressor is almost always the winner. If a cat is getting the worst of a fight he doesn't hesitate to run, whereas a dog may fight to his stupid death. As my old jiujitsu instructor said, "If your trick no work, you better run."

New Stuff: Borbetomagus

This is a favourite album of mine. 23 years ago I had the LP and gave it to a pal as a birthday gift with the intention to buy it for myself again. It took me till today to find it (as cd this time).

New Stuff: Otomo Yoshihide

Eric Dolphy's album Out to Lunch is my favourite jazz album, and when i heard of this re-interpretation of the complete album I had to get it.

New Stuff: The New Yorker

Recently I'm getting my issues quite late, and there's still one missing from March.

First Lines: H.G. Wells - The War of the Worlds

No one would have believed in the last years of the nineteenth century that this world was being watched keenly and closely by intelligences greater than man's and yet as mortal as his own; that as men busied themselves about their various concerns they were scrutinised and studied, perhaps almost as narrowly as a man with a microscope might scrutinise the transient creatures that swarm and multiply in a drop of water.

New Stuff: Mats Gustafsson / Sonic Youth

I'm a Sonic Youth completist, and besides: Mats Gustafsson is a cool guy.
