William S. Burroughs: The Cat Inside

June 3, 1982. Perhaps I should do one of those sptghtly "fixing up my country house" books... First Year in the Garden...a chapter on the White Cat who got his ass bit by a dog, and the grey cat...such a handsome animal. Smokey we call him, after Colonel Smoky, the narc in Maurice Helbrant's Narcotic Agent, bound with Junkie in the Ace edition...well, Smokey is getting to be a real nuisance, fawning all over me and putting his face up to mine, rubbing his head against my hand and following me around when I am trying to shoot. It's almost spooky. I am looking to find a good home for Smoky.

The Informant! (2009)

The U.S. government decides to go after an agri-business giant with a price-fixing accusation, based on the evidence submitted by their star witness, vice president turned informant.

Competently made satire that somehow isn't funny at all.

William S. Burroughs: The Cat Inside

May 9, 1982. This morning I founf what was left of the rabbit she killed...somw fur and chewed bones strewn about the porch, gathering flies. The kittens did actually rip it apart and eat it. She takes her role as huntress, bringing meat for the young, very sincerely. The little cats romp about, pouncing on grasshoppers. They eat and sleep and play.
There is a kidney-shaped fish pool outside the picture window. I cleaned it out and put in some large goldfish I bought in a bait store. The cats are always trying to catch the fish, with no success. One time the white cat leapt for a frog across the pool. The frog dove in and the cat fell in. He is trouble-prone.

First Lines: Ian McEwan - Solar

He belonged to that class of men - vaguely unprepossessing, often bald, short, fat, clever - who were unaccountably attractive to certain beautiful women.

New Stuff: Marshall MG10

I finally got a guitar amplifier, and it's a Marshall! Will be starting to train for my concert in summer.

New Stuff: Ian McEwan

I never miss out, when Ian McEwan publishes a new book.
