Rise of the Planet of the Apes (2011)

During experiments to find a cure for Alzheimer's disease, a genetically-enhanced chimpanzee uses its greater intelligence to lead other apes to freedom.

Fresh and new entry to the series, standard entertainment worth a view.

New Stuff: Wladimir Kaminer

Wladimir Kaminer is a very popular German author of Russian origin, and in this latest book of his he's describing Germany from the viewpoint of a bemused but benevolent foreigner.

The Last Castle (2001)

A court-martialed general rallies together 1200 inmates to rise against the system that put him away.

Well-made prison drama with a somewhat curious set of honor morale.

New Stuff: A Dirty Shame

A more recent John Waters movie I had missed out on.

New Stuff: Return to Wonderland

A modern comic series loosely based on Alice's Adventures in Wonderland, but with a dark twist.

Peyton Place (1957)

The film is an exposé of the lives and loves of the residents of a small New England town, where scandal, homicide, suicide, incest and moral hypocrisy hide behind a tranquil façade.

Highly accomplished and influential moral drama with a mulit-layered plot, although the happy ending appears a bit construed.

Astérix aux jeux olympiques (2008)

Asterix and Obelix have to win the Olympic Games in order to help their friend Alafolix marry Princess Irin, otherwise promised to Caesar's son Brutus.

Silly, and only occasionally entertaining adaptation without any of the original comics' flair.
