When Worlds Collide (1951)

As a new star and planet hurtle toward a doomed Earth, a small group of survivalists frantically work to complete the rocket which will take them to their new home.

Silly and dated, but valiantly made sci-fi hokum.

Halliwell (zero stars): "Stolid science fiction with a spectacular but not marvellous climax following seventy minutes of inept talk."

Maltin***: "Convince yourself this could happen and you'll have fun."

Kick-Ass (2010)

An unnoticed high school student and comic book fan one day decides to become a super-hero, even though he has no powers.

Entertaining and intelligent variation on the superhero genre introducing a small girl as the true superhero.

Les choses de la vie (1979)

A successful expert in building highways has a traffic accident and seriously wounded waiting for death he remembers his past in flashbacks.

Existential drama made with taste and style, but doesn't have anything new to tell.

On the Town (1949)

Three sailors on a day of shore leave in New York City look for fun and romance before their twenty-four hours are up.

Lively and fairly entertaining musical with the City playing the lead.

Pitch Black (2000)

A group of marooned space travelers struggle for survival on a seemingly lifeless sun-scorched world.

Above-average sci-fi thriller with some atmospheric visuals.

After seeing it again still worth watching if you have nothing better at hand.
