Cosmopolis (2012)

Riding across Manhattan in a stretch limo in order to get a haircut, a 28-year-old billionaire asset manager's day devolves into an odyssey with a cast of characters that start to tear his world apart.

Masterfully surreal day-in-the-life study of a despicable character.

New York

Manhattan dawn with the electric power partially reestablished; the South Island remains without light.

First Lines: Marcus Tullius Cicero - On the Commonwealth

Without the virtue of patriotism, neither Duelius, Regulus or Metellus had delivered Rome by their courage, from the terror of Carthage - nor had the two Scipios, when the fire of the second Punic War was kindled, quenched it in their blood - nor when it revived in greater force, would Fabius have enervated it - nor would Marcellus have reduced it - nor when it was repulsed from the gates of our own city, would Scipio have confined it within the walls of our enemies.

Two Seconds (1932)

A condemned murderer, in the process of being executed, relives the events that led to his being sentenced to die in the electric chair.
Gloomy melodrama in an early Noir style with an unusual plot and a great central performance.

Halliwell *: "Competent, pacy crime melodrama."

First Lines: John Jeremiah Sullivan - Pulphead

It is wrong to boast, but in the beginning, my plan was perfect.

Enduring Love (2004)

Two strangers become dangerously close after witnessing a deadly accident.

A quite construed story is successfully adapted as an intense psychological drama.

Maltin ** 1/2: "Contemporary psychological study of not just love but the fragility of relationships and the world around us; worth checking out."

The Lawless Breed (1953)

After being released from prison, ex-gunfighter John Wesley Hardin hopes to have his autobiography published in order to rehabilitate his tarnished reputation.

Lively Western with an unusual plot.

Halliwell (no stars): "Standard Western with the star in an unlikely role."

Maltin ***: "Solid Western drama"

Fish Tank (2009)

Everything changes for 15-year-old Mia when her mum brings home a new boyfriend.

Depressing kitchen sink drama with something like a happy open end.

Maltin *** 1/2: "Emotionally raw and gripping"
