New York

The Hindenburg over Manhattan on May 6, 1937, hours before the disaster.

First Lines: Susan Choi - American Woman

Red Hook is little more than the junction of a couple of roads, with a farm store, a church and a graveyard, a diner.

Inside Llewyn Davis (2013)

A week in the life of a young singer as he navigates the Greenwich Village folk scene of 1961.

What at first glance appears to be the day-to-day odyssey of a hapless artist, reveals further puzzling depths of significance on second thought.

New Stuff: Mary Ellen Mark

A great photographer, our first book with her work.

Dark Matter (2007)

A Chinese university student responds violently when his chances for a Nobel Prize are dashed by school politics.

A subtle and well-played drama that unfortunately doesn't delve too deep into the motivations of the crime.

Maltin**1/2: "Pointed observation of clashing cultures leads to a disturbing denouement that seems to come out of left field - even though it's inspired by a real-life incident."

United 93 (2006)

A real time account of the events on United Flight 93, one of the planes hijacked on 9/11 that crashed near Shanksville, Pennsylvania when passengers foiled the terrorist plot.
A docudrama without any lead performers works fairly well due to diligent direction and a good script.

Maltin***1/2: "Harrowing dramatization...Several key people on the ground portray themselves in this impeccably crafted, emotionaly charged drama, wriiten by the director."
