Beyoncé: Lemonade (2016)

A view of a woman's journey through life.

Powerful and intensefeminist audio-visual poem (or call it musical, if you like) aesthetically reminiscent of Terence Malick's recent work; a treat for eyes and ears.

New Stuff: Fire! Orchestra

A new album from Mats Gustafsson's big band Fire! Orchestra.

First Lines: Elizabeth Wurtzel - Prozac Nation

Some catastrophic situations invites clarity, explode in split moments: You smash your hand through a windowpane and then there is blood and shattered glass stained with red all over the place; you fall out a window and break some bones and scrape some skin.

New Stuff: Trouble Every Day

Trouble Every Day is a 2001 French erotic horror film directed by Claire Denis

Star Trek: The Motion Picture (1979)

When a destructive space entity is spotted approaching Earth, Admiral Kirk resumes command of the Starship Enterprise in order to intercept, examine and hopefully stop it.

Although very slow-paced and basically just a TV episode drawn out much too long, it's still fun to see the team back in action and this time with a much greater budget.

On renewed viewing; the story is silly, of course, but you do get some great sci-fi scapes to see.

Halliwell (no star): "And a surprisingly boring one. Vast sets and big-screen solemnity hardly make this more enjoyable than some of the TV episodes which got more tricks and philosophical fun into one-third of the length."

Maltin **1/2: "Slow, talkative, and derivative, somewhat redeemed by terrific special effects and majestic Jerry Goldsmith score; still, mainly for purists."

New Stuff: Die Luther-Bibel von 1534

Martin Luther s Bible, first printed in 1534, in a meticulous two-volume reprint, including the color woodcuts from the workshop of Lucas Cranach.

The Adjustment Bureau (2011)

The affair between a politician and a contemporary dancer is affected by mysterious forces keeping the lovers apart.

Despite all the credentials, good production and an intriguing premise this movie lacks any romantic felling and disappoints on the sci-fi level as well.

Maltin**1/2: "Unusual fantasy...is staged against the expansive backdrop of N.Y.C., but doesn't carry its momentum to a satisfying conclusion. Too bad; Damon and Blunt give it their best shot."

New Stuff: Miss Red

I came across this artist by coincidence (she collaborated with Gaika) and purchased her free mixtape as download.

First Lines: James Baldwin - Notes of a Native Son

In Uncle Tom's Cabin, that cornerstone of American social protest fiction, St. Clare, the kindly master, remarks to his coldy disapproving cousin, Miss Ophelia, that, so far as he is able to tell, the blacks have been turned over to the devil for the benefit of the whites in this world - however, he adds thoughtfully, it may turn out in the next.
