Johnny Come Lately (1943)

Newspaper man wanders about and helps older woman save her paper.

Entertaining, if not too exciting drama with a mild political stance is worth the watch mainly for Cagney's lively performance.

Halliwell*: "A turn-of-the-century folksy drama seemed an odd choice for a Cagney independent production, and it was not very persuasively made, but the star produced moments of his old charisma."

Maltin**1/2: "Tame but amusing Cagney vehicle..."

End of Summer (2014)

A journey through the austere landscapes of the island of South Georgia and the Antarctic Peninsula.

Beautiful homage to a dwindling paradise, carefully lensed on grainy black and white super 8 film, enhanced by Jóhannsson's solemn and brooding score.

Good Time (2017)

After a botched bank robbery lands his younger brother in prison, Connie Nikas embarks on a twisted odyssey through New York City's underworld to get his brother Nick out of jail.

Downbeat thriller makes it best delving into all that could go wrong with committing a crime, albeit out of brotherly; Robert Pattinson is perfect as the unfortunate crook.

The White Diamond (2004)

About the daring adventure of exploring rain forest canopy with a novel flying device-the Jungle Airship.

A true "Werner Herzog joint" accompanies a madcap aeronautical engineer pursuing his dream of a flying with a teardrop-formed balloon, but also adds amazing insights along the way.

Mortal Engines (2018)

In a post-apocalyptic world where cities ride on wheels and consume each other to survive, two people meet in London and try to stop a conspiracy.

Although this steampunk romp has a rather uninspired, not too exciting plot, it does dazzle with lots of visually stunning special effects, which should satisfy fans of the genre.

Street Scene (1931)

Twenty-four hours elapse on the stoop of a Hell's Kitchen tenement as a microcosm of the American melting pot interacts with each other during a summer heatwave.

Remarkable adaptation of a award-winning play literally creates the titular street scene in a studio with good details and sense for realism; enhanced by overall excellent performances.

Halliwell*: "Slice-of-life drama from an influential play; never much of a film, and very dated."

Maltin***1/2: "Heartbreakingly realistic account of life in N.Y.C. tenements...Elmer Rice's Pulitzer Prize-winning play...enhanced by fine performances, George Barnes' striking camera-work, Alfred Newman's classic music score."
