Full Metal Jacket (1987)
A pragmatic U.S. Marine observes the dehumanizing effects the Vietnam War has on his fellow Marine recruits from their brutal boot camp training to the bloody street fighting set in 1968 in Hue, Vietnam.
Oddly split into 2 largely separate stories this is a paradigmatic anti-war movie by one of cinema's major directors.
Happy Feet (2006)
Into the world of the Emperor Penguins, who find their soul mates through song, a penguin is born who cannot sing.
Enjoyable animated movie with more music than usual.
Watchmen (2009)
In an alternate 1985 where former superheroes exist, the murder of a colleague sends an active vigilante into his own sprawling investigation, uncovering something that could completely change the course of history as we know it.
Successfully epic adaptation of a legendary comic series.
