First Lines: John Updike - Rabbit at Rest

Standing amid the tan, excited post-Christmas crowd at the Southwest Florida Regional Airport, Rabbit Angstrom has a funny sudden feeling that what he has come to meet, what's floating in unseen about to land, is not his son Nelson and daughter-in-law Pru and their two children but something more ominous and intimately his: his own death, shaped vaguely like an airplane.

New Stuff: The Wire

Susan Eldridge

Amer (2009)

Three key moments in the life of a young woman in thrall to her own fantasies.

Told ellipitically with elaborate visuals and barely any dialogue this movie is almost an experimental film, but is actaully a quite accurate homage to the Itailian genre of giallos, complete with the cheesy music and some heavy gore scenes.
