Silk (2007)

The story of a married silkworm merchant-turned-smuggler in 19th century France traveling to Japan for his town's supply of silkworms and becomes obsessed with the concubine of a local baron.

Basically a tearjerker that strangely even ignores exploratory adventure implied with the story in prference to the romantic plot, but is made with style and some subtlety.

Maltin**: "Beautiful but bland period piece...Molina addsa bit of life to ponderous proceedings as the merchant's roguish boss, but that's not quite enough."
