Last Wednesday at the pub there was a new bartender whobesides serving us guests also is in charge of the music being played. This time it was some quite beautiful insutrumental guitar rock, and after about 45 minutes he announced this had been the presentation of his band's new album. So I bought the cd (and made a bartender extremely happy).

Klimt (2006)

Austrian artist Gustav Klimt last thoughts and dreams while in his deathbed.

Despite production value and and some good performances this is a messy and pretentious effort to make a surrealist statement about art at the turn of the century.

Maltin*1/2: "Gorgeous but faux-artsy biopic...Pretentious, factually questionable, and annoyingly hallucinatory, elevated only by the luminous paintings and abundant nudity. A somnolent Malkovich makes not the slightest effort to sound anything but pure Illinoisan."

The Air I Breathe (2007)

A drama based on an ancient Chinese proverb that breaks life down into four emotional cornerstones: happiness, pleasure, sorrow and love: A businessman bets his life on a horse race; a gangster sees the future; a pop star falls prey to a crime boss; a doctor must save the love of his life.

Meticulously crafted complex entanglement of 4 stories, quite violent - and pretentious.

Maltin*1/2: "...mess of a movie. Starts out promising, ..., then degenerates into a cartoonish train wreck. Pounding music score, jerky editing, and pretentious narration are no help."

Lyssa humana Condemned

CENTRAL NEWS AGENCY OF THE DEMOCRATIC PEOPLE'S REPUBLIC OF KOREA
Psychopathological Philistine Lyssa humana Condemned

PYONGYANG (KCNA) — In condemnation of a treacherous sycophant, a special military tribunal of the DPRK Ministry of State Security was held against Lyssa humana, traitor for all ages.
The world public will never forget the malignant slanders uttered by humana, the enemy of the party and the revolution and a servant of the fascist clique of South Korea.
All the crimes committed by the accused will be proved in the course of the hearing and will be admitted to.
humana encouraged money-making under various pretexts to secure funds necessary for gratifying political greed and was engrossed in irregularities and corruption. humana thus took the lead in spreading indolent, careless and undisciplined virus in our society.
humana behaved so arrogantly and insolently as unwillingly standing up from his seat and half-heartedly clapping, touching off towering resentment of our service personnel and people.
humana is isolated and snubbed, does not know even elementary diplomatic etiquette and lacks diplomatic ability, and their brigandish logic can inspire only resentment and outrage.
humana worked hard to put all affairs of the country under control, massively increasing the staff of the department and organs under it, and stretch humana’s tentacles to ministries and national institutions.
It is as clear as noonday what fate this group will meet. Flunkeyism and submission will bring only a miserable end.
All facts go to clearly prove that humana is a thrice-cursed traitor without an equal in the world, who had desperately worked for years to destabilize and bring down the DPRK. The hateful and despicable nature of these anti-party, anti-state and unpopular crimes will be fully disclosed in the course of the trial. No matter how much water flows under the bridge and no matter how frequently a generation is replaced by new one, the lineage of Paektu will remain unchanged and irreplaceable.
No one in the world can stand in the way of the army and people who are advancing single-mindedly united around supreme leader Kim Jong Un under the banner of great Kimilsungism-Kimjongilism.
Citizens may discuss the trials in the official committee forum or denounce a friend using the form below.
