A writer goes through a tough period after the release of her latest book, as she gets involved with an obsessive admirer.

Well-staged intense psychological drama with a (predictable) twist can't avoid the impression one has already been here before, but the Seigner's and Green's performances are well worth the watch.

The Salvation (2014)

In 1870s America, a peaceful American settler kills his family's murderer which unleashes the fury of a notorious gang leader, but his cowardly fellow townspeople then betray him, forcing him to hunt down the outlaws alone.

A very traditional Western story is heightened by relentlessly taking the action to its extremes offering a great cast and quite beautiful, atmospheric cinematography.

The Dreamers (2003)

A young American studying in Paris during the '68 Paris student riots strikes up a friendship with a French brother and sister.

Intense and absorbing study of an unusual three-way relationship, seemingly secluded from the outside world, but Bertolucci skillfully leaks historical, political and aesthetic issues into this complex snow globe.

Halliwell*: "Set against the background of the riots that shook France, this intimate drama  of a ménage à trois con jures the heady atmosphere of the times and a move from adolescent self-absorption to political action."

Maltin***: "Any film that opens with footage of Parisians and filmmakers protesting the ouster of the Cinematheque's legendary Henri Langlois and goes on to "quote" movies ranging from FREAKS to QUEEN CHRISTINA is on the right track. Strongly reminiscent of films from the period it depicts: bold, excessive, daringly sexual, self-serious at times, but vibrantly alive."

Sin City: A Dame to Kill For (2014)

Some of Sin City's most hard-boiled citizens cross paths with a few of its more reviled inhabitants.

Highly and efficiently stylized adaptation of the comic strip of the same name with multiple intersecting subplots manages to achieve the quality of the first movie.

Dark Shadows (2012)

An imprisoned vampire is set free and returns to his ancestral home, where his dysfunctional descendants are in need of his protection.

Loving and ironic homage to a popular 60s TV series which, however, can hardly be understood by those who haven't seen the original.

Maltin**1/2: "Amusing spin on the vintage daytime TV drama created by Dan Curtis (with cameos by the original stars). Depp seems to be having fun, but the film never reaches the comic heights one might hope for. Rick Heinrichs' lavish production is a real plus."
