A masterpiece of urban melancholy stories of love forlorn, wonderfully photographed and masterfully directedwith style reminiscent of Jean-Luc Godard.

Halliwell**: "A mood of nostalgia-tinged melancholy pervades this enjoyable movie of young, urban workers caught in a web of disappointment and desire, but still hopelessly optimstic."

New Stuff: Yi dai zong shi

Had to get the DVD and see it again.

Yi dai zong shi (2013)

The story of martial-arts master Ip Man, the man who trained Bruce Lee.

Masterful  martial arts epic, produced in the elegiac-melancholical style typical for its director and beautifully photographed.

Dung che sai duk (1994)

(aka Ashes of Time)

A broken-hearted hit man moves to the desert where he finds skilled swordsmen to carry out his contract killings.

Visually mesmerizing and poetic, but an incomprehensible plot makes this movie hard to watch.



 

Chun gwong cha sit (1997)

aka Happy Together




A gay Chinese couple living in Argentine try to mend their broken relationship.

Beautifully photographed and magically assembled story of the ups and downs of love and passion, not really a gay love story, rather an essay about loneliness and man's need of love.

As a surprise: there are 2 Frank Zappa titles on the soundtrack which are used frequently in the movie.
