Let Them All Talk (2020)

A famous author goes on a cruise trip with her friends and nephew in an effort to find fun and happiness while she comes to terms with her troubled past.

Carefully directed cruise ship drama with some humorous elements is fully enjoyable first and foremost for its excellently assembled ensemble; there's never a dull moment.

Side Effects (2013)

A young woman's world unravels when a drug prescribed by her psychiatrist has unexpected side effects.

A highly convoluted mystery with multiple twists somehow works with its excellent performances and intelligent direction.

On rewatching: Still good for a second viewing, well-made in all departments.

Maltin***: "Intriguing film noir-type story...with modern pharmaceutical twist keeps you guessing right to the end, although its characters are not especially fun to spend time with."

Logan Lucky (2017)

Two brothers attempt to pull off a heist during a NASCAR race in North Carolina.

As to be expected by this director, this movie is well executed with a good script and a prime ensemble of actors, has humor and some suspense, but who needs yet another heist movie?

The Girlfriend Experience (2009)

A drama set in the days leading up to the 2008 Presidential election, and centered on a high-end Manhattan call girl meeting the challenges of her boyfriend, her clients, and her work.

Intriguing low-budget study of relationships dictated by economic restraint, but a bit pedestrian and talkative.

Maltin ** 1/2: "Fragmented, pseudo-Godardian study of prostitution as a metaphor for capitalism is generally engrossing but ultimately feels shallow and leaves little lasting impression."
