New Stuff: Das große Buch der Allgemeinbildung für Kinder

While searching for a birthday gift for my 8-year-old nephew Richard I came across this book that summarizes the general knowledge ("Allgemeinwissen") one currently can expect children in age of 10-12 should be aware of. The book is a bit too adavnced for my nephew at his age, but I was so curious about the contents that I got it for myself.

The Man in the White Suit (1951)

An altruistic chemist invents a fabric that resists wear and stain as boon to humanity but both capital and labor realize it must be suppressed for economic reasons.

Fast-paced British satire about economic vs progress issues has becomes a classic in its own right.

Halliwell****: "Brilliant satirical comedy played as farce and put together with meticulous cinematic counterpoint, so that every moment counts and all concerned give of their best."

Maltin***1/2: "Most engaging comedy."

Sightseers (2012)

A young man wants to show his girlfriend his world, but events soon conspire against the couple and their dream caravan holiday takes a very wrong turn.

Very dark and at times disturbing comedy that envisions England as an hopelessly bleak society despite its beautiful landscapes.

Maltin**1/2: "Very black comedy...At times very funny, the film loses its delicate balance between charm and bloodletting in the second half but could develop a real cult following. Lowe and Oram developed these characters as part of their work in improv comedy; they know how to underplay to great effect, despite the wild twists and turns the story takes."
