Emma. (2020)

In 1800s England, a well meaning but selfish young woman meddles in the love lives of her friends.

This is a solid, lively and entertaining adaptation of the Jane Austen classic, maybe not the best, but it has great performances and excellent period detail.

Emma (1996)

While matchmaking for friends and neighbors, a young 19th-century Englishwoman nearly misses her own chance at love.

Very competent made-for-TV adaptation of Jane Austen's novel needn't hide behind the cinema production from the same year.

First Lines: Jane Austen - Northanger Abbey

No one who had ever seen Catherine Morland in her infancy, would have supposed her born to be a heroine.

First Lines: Jane Austen - Pride and Prejudice

IT is a truth universally acknowledged, that a single man in possession of a good fortune must be in want of a wife.

Becoming Jane (2007)

A biographical portrait of a pre-fame Jane Austen and her romance with a young Irishman.

Mildly competent period bio-pic with a good central performance, the movie does manage to avoid sentimentality.

Pride and Prejudice (1940)

Adaptation of the classic Jane Austen novel.

Although the script takes a lot of liberties compared to the novel, it does wonderfully capture the spirit of the book, and the casting is perfect. By the way, Aldous Huxley was co-author of the script. A true Hollywood classic.
