Gin gwai (2002)

A blind girl gets a cornea transplant so that she would be able to see again and then she sees more than she naturally should.

Intriguing horror story made with style and atmosphere.

Halliwell (no star): "Strange psycholological horror story that requires more than the usual suspension of disbelief."

Maltin **1/2: "Muted psychological horror piece is nicely atmospheric but loses steam by the end."

The War of the Worlds (1953)

The film adaptation of the H.G.Wells novel about the invasion of Earth by Martians.
Classic 50s sci-fi invasion threat movie complete with weird alien creatures and the H bomb; still highly entertaining after all these years.

Halliwell *: "Spectacular battle scenes are the mainstay of this violent fantasy, which goes to pieces once the cardboard characters open their mouths."

Maltin ***1/2: "Vivid, frightening adaptation...Dramatically sound and filled with dazzling, Oscar-winning special effects; superior sci-fi, ..."

Post Grad (2009)

A young woman graduates from college and is forced to move back into her childhood home with her eccentric family, while she attempts to find a job, the right guy, and just a hint of where her life is headed.

Likable, but predictable and mediocre comedy with its star basically rehashing her character in the TV series Gilmore Girls.

Maltin *1/2: "Bland, inert comedy-drama, with a puppy-love subplot, strains to entertain. Keaton plays the eccentric but softhearted dad; Burnett, as the dotty grandmother, is not at her best."
