Night Will Fall (2014)
Researchers discover film footage from World War II that turns out to be a lost documentary shot by Alfred Hitchcock and Sidney Bernstein in 1945 about German concentration camps.
Informative documentary on the topic of the earliest film footage of the German concentration camps; however, the details are not as new as the film wants us to believe other than the fact that the Bernstein/Hitchcock production is currently being reassembled.
New Stuff: Jacques Rancière
A friend at Twitter brought me upon Jacques Rancière, and I was instantly interested on his writings about cinema. I thought I'd purchase the book, if I happen to find it while in Vienna, and the first bookstore we visited had it.
Exhibition: Arik Brauer
Another (large) exhibition at the Viennese Leopold Museum displayed a retrospective of the Austrian artist Arik Brauer's work. Brauer is renown in his home country and beyond as a versatile artist and singer/songwriter and is even called a jack-of-all-trades in the exhibition text. He is a co-founder of the Vienna School of Fantastic Realism, and even a cursory view of any of his works will confirm his artistic vision. The paintings are fantastic indeed, very colorful on the verge of Kitsch, but deliberately so. The topics, however, are very political (war is a predominant one) and often contain disturbing images. Neverthless, Brauer's intentions are always obvious and honest, his stance likable.
