Harry Tracy, Desperado (1982)
As the last survivor of the Wild Bunch Harry Tracy pulls off a series of profitable robberies before making his way west in search of a judge's daughter who has captured his heart.
Revisionist Western slightly in the romanticizing vein of Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid, although a bit slower paced and less exciting.
Maltin **1/2: "Laid-back but worthwhilefor Dern's fine performance and vivid re-creation of Western life at the turn of the 20th century."
The Beaver (2011)
A troubled husband and executive adopts a beaver hand-puppet as his sole means of communicating.
A risky plot idea is professionally handled and offers a few good performances, but not without some sentimental moments.
Maltin **1/2: "Intriguing, way-offbeat parable written by Kyle Killen wins gains traction through Gibson's committed performance, though it's hard to say what lessons are learned when it's all said and done."
The Street With No Name (1948)
A covert FBI agent infiltrates a ruthless gangster mob, but his life is is at risk from a mysterious informant that funnels inside information to the hoodlums.
What begins like a FBI commercial turns into a bona fide Noir thriller with good performances and excellent photography.
Halliwell *: "The oldest crime plot in the world, applied with vigour to the documentary realism of The House on 92nd Street and built around the Kiss of Death psychopathic character created by Richard Widmark."
