Le fantôme de la liberté (1974)

A succession of loosely connected surreal episodes.

Don't let the missing 'synopsis' irritate you. This movie is one of Buñuel's grand masterpieces, and everything told in this plot fits like a glove, the episodes seamlessly flow into the next. In one famous episode a teacher explains what the reversion of an accepted norm would be like: people would sit at the table on the 'pot', excuse themselves politely, if they needed to eat something and then retreat to a small room, lock themselves in and - eat.

Le professeur des gendarmes: Madrid was filled with the stench of - pardon my language - food. It was indecent.
