Wall Street (1987)

A young and impatient stockbroker is willing to do anything to get to the top, including trading on illegal inside information taken through a ruthless and greedy corporate raider who takes the youth under his wing.

Although intended as cautionary tale Michael Douglas' robber baron is played with such greedy vigour he's more likely to be an idol for the like-minded.

Maltin ***: "Modern-day morality tale...is short on subtlety but completely absorbing, especially in the wake of the real-life "insider trading" scandal of 1986."

Halliwell **: "Almost documentary in its detailed account of financial skulduggery but slipping ultimately into sentimentality, the film is marked by a brilliant performance from Michael Douglas as the scheming megalomaniac Gordon Gekko."
