An ambitious young woman, determined to build a career in TV journalism, gets good advice from her first boss, and they fall in love.
A tearjerker so old-fashioned it's creaky with a plot that can' really decide where to go, albeit the two stars do play along very well.
Halliwell (no star): "Very much a 'so what?' movie, a sentimental weepie about what are presumably intended as glamorous and powerful lives; outside its home territory, it looks and sounds ridiculous."
Maltin***: "Paraphrase of A STAR IS BORN has everything but Pfeiffer saying "This is Mrs. Norman Maine" at the end, but it still works because of the thousand-watt charisma of its leads."
