Rango (2011)

Rango is an ordinary chameleon who accidentally winds up in the town of Dirt, a lawless outpost in the Wild West in desperate need of a new sheriff.

Wonderful animated fun full of new ideas and lots of allusions to other genre movies, maybe better for a mature audience than for children, especially since some of the creatures are quite gruesome.

Maltin **: "Depp's amusing, off-the-wall verbal riffs and a modern spin on Western mythology make this fun for a while, until the story runs dry (in every sense of the word). Staging is impressive, thanks to visual consultant Roger Deakins, but the character design emphasizes realistic desert creatures, bringing a new level of ugliness tomainstream animation."
