Once upon a time (well: the 70s) in Dublin, Ireland, there was a gang of youths who called themselves the Lypton Village, who gave themselves alter-ego monikers and lived out a bit of fantasy life to overcome the Dublin dreariness. Two of the boys, Bono and the Edge, founded a mainstream rock band called U2 and became world famous and horribly rich. The other boys, led by the singer/songwriter Gavin Friday, founded their own band, named it Virgin Prunes ( local slang for so-called "outsiders" and "freaks"), and made more adventurous and avant-garde music than their pals and gained a small cult audience and some notoriety for their outrageous and controversial stage performances. The orginal band dispersed in the late 80s, but all of them have been continuously active in diverse musical projects, but I suspect they never got rich.
