The story of how the novel "Mrs. Dalloway" affects three generations of women, all of whom, in one way or another, have had to deal with suicide in their lives.
Well-crafted production with a complex narrative structure and a whole team of first-class actors, but overladen with supposed meaning that really doesn't seem to be there.
Halliwell***: "Deft, engrossing film...It is a deeply affecting account of the choices people make in their lives and the consequences."
Maltin***: "Emotionally draining, to say the least, but redeemed by the luminiscent performances of its three stars."
[N.B.: A well-meaning reviewer at imdb.com fittingly captioned his review as "The Tragedy of Baking a Cake"]
