Bill Orcutt formed the legendary band Harry Pussy with his wife Adris Hoyos in Florida in 1992. After 3 albums the couple divorced and that was it for the band. Bill Orcutt released one solo album very much in the vein of Harry Pussy, then took a long haitus and reappeared in 2009 with the sensational A New Way to Pay Old Debts and nearly one great album every year since. His guitar playing can hardly be compared to that of any other guitarist, although you can make out blues, punk and free improvisation elements in his sound. His music is so different, irritating and wild, you might not even notice that he's playing an acoustic guitar. It's as if he had found a whole new way to play the instrument. A guest at one of my dinner parties was shocked and said: "This guy doesn't know how to play guitar, that's not how it is supposed to be played!" Exactly.
