Rarely Heard: Sibylle Baier - Tonight

Imagine a young woman in the 1970s struggling to leave some artistic imprint of her own. She paints and dances, has a small role in Wim Wenders' Alice in den Städten and even contributes some of her own songs to the soundtrack of the movie. For herself she records her songs in her home on an old reel-to-reel machine. And she finally decides to focus on her growing family rather than pursuing an artistic career. 30 years later her son lends a copy of his mother's home recordings to Dinosaur Jr.'s Joe Mascis, who in turn saw that it found its way to Athens, GA, record label Orange Twin. The album Colour Green  was made available to the world the following year and is welcomed as a masterpiece of the early-'70s underground folk scene and is compared to the achievements of Nico, Vashti Bunyan and Joni Mitchell.
BTW, Sibylle Baier's son  also has made a nice homepage for his mother where you can hear more unpublished songs: http://www.sibyllebaier.com
