The Upper Asutrian GIS Orchestra (Go For Improvised Sounds Orchestra) is (literally) a big band of more than 20 musicians who performed at the Unlinted 28 festival in Wels, Austria. The concept of this unique kind of band is to bring together musicians, professional and amateur, who enjoymusical experimentation and joy of improvisation, and combine their efforts into a conducted form of orchestral music. The result is an unusual long-form collage conducted in a stop-go cut-up like technique which at first is quite surprising and intriguing. But after a while the individual 'compositions' become indistinguishable as the segments appear interchangeable. Nevertheless the performance impressed by its precision and the enthusiasm of the ensemble.
